Your questions about Dubai

Everything you need to know before you get started.

Is there any tax in Dubai?
There is no personal income tax in the UAE: 0% on salaries, freelance income, dividends and capital gains received personally. Corporate tax is 0% up to 375,000 AED of taxable profit, then 9% above that; a free zone company can be at 0% on its qualifying income, subject to conditions (QFZP status). Standard VAT is 5%.
Do I have to leave France?
France and the UAE have a tax treaty that secures the elimination of double taxation. It does not, however, remove the need to properly break your French tax residency or to deal with the exit tax (art. 167 bis of the French tax code): an effective departure from France is required. In practice, reaching 183 days of presence in the UAE is the benchmark for obtaining a tax residency certificate for treaty purposes. These points need to be organized case by case, depending on your situation.
How long does it take to obtain my visa?
It depends on the route. For a freelance visa, allow about 2 to 6 weeks depending on the flow. For a company sponsoring the visa, allow 2 to 4 weeks in total. For a Golden Visa, allow 1 to 4 weeks depending on the route. With BlueVisa, you track every step in real time in your online portal.
Entrepreneur, freelance or Golden Visa: which route should I choose?
In most cases we recommend the company + entrepreneur visa: it is the simplest and most complete route (corporate bank account, several visas possible), and it is the company that sponsors your residence visa. The freelance visa is the lighter option if you invoice on your own, with no employees. And if you invest at the required thresholds (real estate, fund, project), the Golden Visa of 5 or 10 years requires neither a sponsor nor a minimum stay. A discovery call settles it in a few minutes.
Can I bring my family?
Yes. Once you are a resident, you can sponsor your spouse and children. The residence visa is valid across all the Emirates. We handle the family formalities within the same application.
What about my crypto or tradfi activities?
These activities are handled personally, in your own name; separately from your residence permit. The UAE does not tax personal income: gains you make personally (trading, stock markets, capital gains, including in cryptocurrencies) are not taxed (0%). One practical caveat: banks classify crypto profiles as "high risk", so opening an account goes through enhanced due diligence (KYC); it is doable, and we point you to the right institutions.
Do I need to be on site to complete the formalities?
Most of the process is handled remotely through our platform. A trip to the UAE is still required for the medical test, the biometrics and the issuing of your Emirates ID. Everything else (building the application, submission, tracking) is done online.
What is the free zone (RAKEZ), and where is it?
RAKEZ is the free zone we use to set up your company. It is located in Ras Al Khaimah, a neighboring emirate about an hour's drive from Dubai; which keeps the setup cost lower. The residence visa you obtain is valid across all the Emirates, Dubai included: you live and work in Dubai, your company is simply registered in that free zone.
